FMC Technologies selected by Post-Newsweek Media Printing for Newsprint Handling System

FMC Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: FTI) announced that its Automated Systems business has been selected by Post-Newsweek Media, Inc.’s printing division, Comprint Printing of Gaithersburg, Maryland to supply an integrated roll handling system. The system consists of three laser guided fork vehicles, roll preparation equipment, and a system control computer.
Comprint Printing is one of the largest commercial web printers in the Washington, DC area, and the self guided vehicle system interfaces with Comprint’s production software to automatically deliver rolls of paper Just-In-Time for printing.

The FMC Technologies supplied roll handling system provides a cost-effective and efficient method to facilitate the movement of rolls from the roll prep stations to the reelstands. The self-guided vehicles provided by FMC Technologies are designed not only to deliver the prepped rolls to the reelstands, but they are specifically engineered to automatically load the rolls onto the reelstand. FMC uses precise technology in order to accurately position the roll at the correct height for loading, and guarantees a success rate of 98% during automatic loading and unloading of reelstands.
